I took friends (photographers and a painter) to the power station site and before long they were engaging with the site in the same way as me. Helped by tea and delicious cakes in the station buffet!

Karen asks: Where is the best vantage point for a view over the towers and the fields for me to sketch?
Me: Follow me …
We stopped in a layby en route to the marina with an elevated view across the fields to the railway station and the towers beyond. Karen gets out her sketchpad, paints and charcoals. “The curves of the towers are really beautifulbut so difficult. I’ll show my tutor”. Karen was one of the first obsessives.
The next time we visit, on a blasting hot summer’s day, we go to the marina and set up base there.

It was too hot, so we retreated to the station buffet. I decide to make a couple of short videos about our visits…
Video 1 Karen and her painting
Karen gives a lovely insight into her early work and her engagement with the power station.
Video 2 Me and my sketch.
I am starting to become concerned about the after use of the site. I’m going to start a project on reimagining how the power station and environs will change over the next few years. To help with this, I’ve done a little sketch of my own.
